Isaac Torres, (Ciudad de México, 1982)

Ha cursado los estudios de Maestría en Urbanismo en el área de Análisis, Teoría e Historia en la Facultad de Arquitectura de la UNAM (2007-2009) la Licenciatura en Comunicación Social de la UAM-Xochimilco (2000-2005) con área de concentración en Semiótica Intertextual y el Bachillerato en Arte y Humanidades con especialidad en Artes Plásticas en el CEDART Luis Spota (1997-2000). Asistió al IX Programa de especialización en Semiótica en la BUAP, Puebla (2006) y el Programa Integral de Fotografía y Medios Alternativos en el Centro de la Imagen (2001).

Fue becario en la generación Jóvenes Creadores 2007-2008 del FONCA en el área de Medios Alternativos y artista residente de la Kunstlerhaüser Worspswede en Alemania,en el área de artes visuales durante 2009. También ha recibido los apoyos de Fundación BBVA Bancomer (2005) y del Instituto Mexicano de la Juventud (2006) para proyectos artísticos y culturales.

Su obra se ha exhibido en diversos espacios de México y el extranjero, entre los que destacan el Centro de la Imagen, X Teresa Arte Actual, el Museo Universitario del Chopo, Instituto Cultural de Aguascalientes, Galería José Ma. Velasco, Galería 13, ArtBridge Fair, ZonaMaco, Kunstlerhäuser Worpswede y Altes Rathaus Gottingen.

Fue fundador de los colectivos Novantro Lounge en 1999, Ocio+Humano en 2000 y Chicos de Hoy (CDH) en 2004, el cual dirige desde entonces en proyectos de exhibición, promoción y difusión de propuestas de arte contemporáneo en México.

Del 2002 al 2007 fue colaborador de la publicación Velocidad Crítica (Monterrey, NL) y editor invitado para el proyecto local-visitante. En 2005 dirigió el primer Foro sobre Arte y Medios de Comunicación en México (FAME) para la UAM-X.

Su trabajo ha sido publicado en catálogos y revistas como RIM Magazine, Arte al Día, Parteaguas y los libros New Faces of Contemporary Art y mART Catálogo de artistas emergentes 2009, así como entrevistas para medios como Reforma, Tomo/Excelsior, Canal 22, Ibero 90.9 y la NHK TV de Hamburgo.

Vive y trabaja en la Ciudad de México.

Isaac Torres (Mexico City, 1982)

He studied a Master’s Degree in Urbanism: theory, history and analysis at the UNAM (National University of Mexico) He has two Bachelor’s Degrees: one in Arts and Humanities at the Fine Arts National Institute of Mexico (INBA), and another in Social Communications and Media Production at the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana (UAM -X) in Mexico City. He also studied Photography and alternative media at Centro de la Imagen (CONACULTA - National Arts and Culture Counsel, Mexico) as well as many production, video, photography and art history workshops.

In 2007 he was selected in the Young Creators Program of the National Found of Arts in Mexico (FONCA) in the field of Visual Arts/Alternative Media. Also he won the artist residence in the Kunstlerhauser Worspswede in Germany on 2009 in the field of visual arts and worked in a single exhibition for the Altes Rathaus in the City of Göttingen.

As an artist, he has exhibited his work in a collective way in art museums and galleries in Mexico and some foreigner countries. Some of these exhibitions were at Centro de la Imagen, X Teresa Arte Actual, el Museo Universitario del Chopo, Instituto Cultural de Aguascalientes, Galería José Ma. Velasco, Galería 13, ArtBridge Fair, ZonaMaco, Kunstlerhäuser Worpswede y Altes Rathaus Gottingen, among others.

He was the founder of the Novantro Lounge Collective, oriented to the promotion of youth artistic proposals in Mexico City during the late 1990’s, and collaborated in the coordination and production of different exhibitions. In 2004 he found and directed a collective initiative group called Chicos de Hoy, an organization with many members in Mexico City, which works in projects about media and design with art disciplines.

Since 2002 to 2007 he wrote for Velocidad Critica Magazine (Mty, NL, Mex.) and as a guest editor for the special issue about Mexico City. In 2005 he directed the 1st Forum about Mass Media Studies and Contemporary Art for the UAM, Mexico.

His Works was published in several magazines and articles like RIM Magazine, Arte al Día, Parteaguas and the books New Faces of Contemporary Art y mART Emergent art Cathalogue 2009, as some interviews for TV, Radio and Newspappers like Reforma, El Universal, Tomo/Excelsior, Canal 22, Ibero 90.9 and the NHK TV de Hamburgo.

Nowadays, he lives and works in Mexico City.
